Arizona - a gastronomes delight
Each month we will share news and tips on some of Arizona's most popular attractions or experiences, ensuring you are ready to sell the destination to your clients.
This month we are focusing on all things gastronomy!
Arizona is a culinary treasure trove, offering award-winning chefs, little eateries, local breweries and internationally acclaimed wine. Sit back and let us get your stomach rumbling with these culinary highlights.
Dinner is served
Whatever are you hungry for, Arizona can dish it out. From Tucson's famous Mexican restaurants, to al fresco cafes in Phoenix and Scottsdale, to mom-and-pop eateries around the state, Arizona serves up the good stuff. No matter your taste or budget, visitors will find the perfect match, whether looking for a farm-to-table restaurant, a crave-worthy hole-in-the-wall joint and big-name chains serving up every cuisine imaginable. Or, for some real indulgence, be sure to visit a James Beard Award-winning chef like Charleen Badman of the Scottsdale restaurant FnB, who took home the title of 'Best Chef: Southwest' last year for her richly flavoured, globally accented seasonal menus and elevated use of locally grown vegetables.

Pop and pour
Arizona's high desert and particular climate provides the perfect setting for vineyards, with 116 wineries spread out across the state, mostly within the key grape-growing regions of Sonoita, Willcox and Verde Valley. Visitors can enjoy a tipple of this internationally acclaimed wine on one of Arizona's three wine trails, which also provide the opportunity to sit back and take in some of the state's most stunning vistas. For the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, try out the Water to Wine tour by Sedona Adventure Tours, where you can float down the Verde River on an inflatable kayak before enjoying an outdoor wine tasting at the Alcantara Vineyards. Or check out this beginner's guide to Arizona's incredible wine trails for even more inspiration!
Food heaven in Tucson
Did you know, Tucson was the first city to earn the designation of World City of Gastronomy by UNESCO? Home to trendy eateries, some of the best Mexican food the north side of the border, and James Beard Award winners like Chef Janos Wilder of Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails and The Carriage House in downtown Tucson, the city offers a truly unforgettable dining experience with a rich agricultural heritage and thriving food traditions to boot. Between dining, visitors can head to the golf course, take in Tucson's flourishing art scene or enjoy one of the many festivals and events that take place.
Test your cookery and cocktail skills
During lockdown, many people have taken to their kitchens to create culinary concoctions. For a healthy yet delicious snack, be sure to try this 'Broccomoli' and Avocado Toast recipe from Justin Macy, head chef at CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa located in Scottsdale.
To wash it down, mix up a 'Perfect Margarita' using W Scottsdale's no frills, no blender, no fuss recipe.
  • Perfect Margarita:

  • 1.5 oz Don Julio Blanco tequila
  • .25 oz triple sec
  • 1 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
  • .5 oz agave nectar
  • .25 oz fresh squeezed orange juice
  • Float .5 oz Grand Marnier
  • Garnish with lime and orange wedge

Fill two glasses with freshly cracked ice. Pour all ingredients except Grand Marnier over ice in one of the glasses. Shake vigorously and strain into the other glass. Then float the Grand Marnier on top. Drop in both the orange and lime juice and garnish with a lime and orange wedge. Enjoy!
