Hello from The Digital Filter
If you only read one thing this Week - Interesting piece from CNN on how Twitter is requiring journalists to be more rigorous -
'Twitter makes journalism better. When people find out about an event from sources like Twitter, it forces the professional operations to go one (or ten) better, and offer an explanation for what happened or an analysis on what's next. Services like Twitter remind us that reporting just the facts of an event isn't enough. We all hear about what's happening from everywhere''
(see in box below)
Making a slightly different, but associated point, here is my piece on how the web has reduced the accuracy of our information. See article here - on The Wall blog -

The Telegraph Group get into the 'pay for content' space , by charging non UK users. For £1.99, international users can access Telegraph.co.uk and its mobile offering. For £9.99, users can subscribe to the full digital package, which includes access to The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph. No plans to introduce into the UK apparently - we shall see.....

Despite the hullabaloo regarding the 'Cookie Law', it would appear that people are not that bothered. Stats from a sample of 35m users of 29 websites from TRUSTe, show that a tiny minority are choosing to find out more about cookies, while the majority of those choose not to change settings -

The Guardian on how Tech City ( silicon roundabout) is doing two years in -
http://ow.ly/eXZWH.
On the up - Two years on, with an estimated five-fold increase of tech companies in the area, there is much to crow about - not least last week's considerable coup of landing Facebook executive Joanna Shields to lead the Tech City Investment Organisation (TCIO), the UK Trade & Investment vehicle for growing east London's tech zone.
Amazon opens it's Black Friday store. Black Friday is synonymous with big shopping discounts, mainly in the US, though Amazon did bring the concept to the UK back in 2010 and the concept is becoming more familiar outside of the States -

Don't panic: 'Tablet publishing will ensure our future' say Condé Nast publishers. Personally, I find magazine publisher obsession with tablets rather confusing. Much smarter, I think to look at developing content in HTML 5 - greater flexibility, ability to capture more and better data and less reliance on tablet manufacturers.

a misfortune. But to refuse the test is to refuse the gift, and
something worse, more irrevocable, than misfortune.
