Rosh Pina
One of the oldest moshavot (or rural settlement) in Israel, Rosh Pina is a great place for visitors to base themselves with guest houses galore, rustic restaurants and trendy cafés. Although the town has developed over the last 120 years, the old houses in the heart of the moshava have been beautifully preserved as have their cobblestone streets. This is the gateway to the Hula Valley and many of its attractions including the Hula Nature Reserve and Hula Agamon. Both are prime sites for bird watching as well as for observing water buffalos, otters and other wildlife. Visitors can also arrange guided hiking tours, horseback riding, bike tours and jeep excursions from here.

With successful events in both 2011 and 2012, the Hula Bird Festival is steadily establishing itself as one of those "not to be missed" events in the International Birding year. The annual festival provides both locals and visitors with a chance to view one of the most incredible birding destinations on Earth. The Hula Valley is one of the most important stopover and wintering sites for birds migrating south through the Great Rift Valley, and the Festival takes place at one of the most active times for this migration - featuring events, tours, seminars, and much more.

My Israel
My name is Jonathan and I am a Birder. I was born and raised in Israel which is very fortunate for a birder. Israel is an incredible country for Birdwatching, combining a large number of natural habitats within easy reach and also serving as a massive bottleneck for migrant birds.
I have been birding my entire life, have travelled the world extensively racking up an impressive world list, but my heart lies with the Larks, Sandgrouse and Wheatears of the deserts of Israel, and even when far away I always feel the urge to return.
As tourism director for the Israel Ornithological Center of the SPNI I lead dozens of foreign birders on tours every year and am fortunate to serve as an ambassador for Israel, sharing the country's beauty through the landscape and birds.
