Gem of the month
The Port of Jaffa
Jaffa Port was one of the major ports of the Land of Israel. After the opening of Ashdod port in 1965, it was closed to shipping. In 2007 the Tel Aviv Municipality launched a NIS100 million development programme for the area creating a vibrant urban space for fishermen, sea sport activities, galleries, restaurants and shops. The current Jaffa harbour and its installations are remnants of the British colonial harbour. Little has survived from the old Turkish harbour except for a small portion of the original stone jetty and the old customs house. A handful of fishermen make their livelihoods from Jaffa harbour and a myriad of organisations are working to ensure that they will continue to remain active after the harbour is transformed. Their daily catch is sold in the large warehouse at the southern end of the harbour and is claimed to be the tastiest and cheapest in town. My Israel
Ilana Goor - Artist

My Israel is a place where art is accessible to everyone and can be created in an open and liberal environment. I've turned my private home into a gallery that's open 7 days a week, allowing access to not only art that I've created, but also the art of many young Israelis who are starting out and need exposure. Despite my museum's eclectic nature, each room features creations from different places and times. Each work of art has a different background and a story all its own. The Museum's uniqueness lies in the unexpected contexts generated by each artist, both on the human and on the visual level. Read more here...
