Gem of the month
Akko
Akko, sited on a narrow spit of land that pokes into the sea, seduces visitors with its narrow alleys, slender minarets, secret passageways, subterranean vaults and impressive ramparts. The city is the Acre of the Crusaders, and as the capital and port of the Latinate Kingdom of Palestine, it received ships from Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice. St Francis of Assisi and Marco Polo were among the guests in the knights' dining halls. Things haven't changed much since then and the modern visitor can get a real sense of Akko's history by wandering its streets. Allow a day or so to see the city; it's at its prettiest in the moonlight so try and stay if you can. Read more here...

"Festival of Festivals", Haifa
December 2013

The Festival of Festivals event takes place annually in Haifa during the month of December. The festival takes place in the Arab Wadi Nisnas neighbourhood and extends to the German Colony at the foot of the Baha'i' Gardens. This exclusive holiday combines the celebration of three religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam with their respective activities held every weekend throughout the month. Festivities include an arts and crafts fair, traditional food prepared by local residents and live music from artists of all ethnicities. The festival symbolizes the value of coexistence, living together in peace and harmony, and shows a mutual respect of all six religions in the city. Read more here...
