As the year draws to a close this marks a perfect opportunity to celebrate the year just past and look forward to what lies ahead. 2017 has been a hugely successful year for MTPA and we would like to thank all of the trade for contributing to this year's success. As of the end of November, current visitor figures from the UK are 4% up versus 2016 so we are well on track to finish another year with positive growth and we expect this to continue into 2018, a year of great importance to Mauritius being the 50th Anniversary of Independence.

Emirates introduce additional services to and from Mauritius
|

As a result of increased demand in flights to and from Mauritius between November 2017 - January 2018, Emirates has launched additional services. The flights will be operated with Boeing 777 aircraft in 2 class configuration with 42 Business Class seats and 386 Economy Class seats.

MCB Tour Championship and European Seniors Tour final hosted at Constance Belle Mare Plage's Legend Golf Course

In early December, Constance Belle Mare Plage's Legend Golf Course played host, once again, to the MCB Tour Championship and European Seniors Tour final. As always, the weekend was filled with exceptional golf but this year was a record-breaking Championship! The first record came from Sweden's Jarmo Sandelin who set a new course and Senior Tour record of 62 on the Legend Course. The second came from the MCB Tour Championship winner, Thailand's Thaworn Wiratchant, who's overall score of -23 set the new record, the former being -15. Undoubtedly, an unforgettable weekend of golf in Mauritius!

Reopening of LUX* Grande Gaube, Mauritius

Opening its doors on December 20th, 2017, this resort is being completely reimagined by British interior designer Kelly Hoppen, bringing guests a fresh-spirited luxury resort with a wonderfully eclectic mix of colourful prints, retro chic and lots of greenery. The $32m renovations will see the resort reduced down to 186 rooms and suites complete with private sundecks and uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. There will be a brand new spa with a Wellness Concierge and meditation expert on hand, and all new fabulous restaurant and bar concepts, including a traditional Creole Smokehouse with Rum Treehouse, an open sushi kitchen, a Pisco bar, and a buzzy beach club. This is huge news for the island with LUX* Grand Gaube aiming to be Mauritius' most exclusive resort of 2018.

A successful immersion for 60 travel agents and tour-operators from Europe, Africa and Asia among which Kuoni UK, British Airways Holidays, Virgin Holidays! Some have discovered, others rediscovered our off beaten tracks genuine Mauritius between the 30th November and the 4th December 2017. Totally under the spell of Otentik Music rhythm, as well as of local musicians of Atelier MoZar and Carpe Diem, they partied late into the night! With geolocation app Otentik Discovery, they discovered Port-Louis and its' most popular and tasty street foods. Rani, Vish, Veeren and Devianee hosted them for an Otentik Dinner in a local home.
